What you should know about Activated Carbon

Filter in Germiston, Patent in Germiston, Activated Carbon in Germiston, Filtration in Germiston

Activated Carbon Innovations started investigating alternative methods to produce quality activated carbon from Macadamia nut shells.
As a result of extensive R&D and pilot plant testing in our Limpopo facility, we are now consistently producing a high quality product with Iodine value +1000.
We use a unique and patented process for both the carbonization and high temperature steam activation in a single stage operation, from raw macadamia nut shells to high quality activated carbon.

Activated Carbon Innovations was established with the objective of producing high quality Activated Carbon from Macadamia nut shells in an environmentally friendly way. During 2009 a furnace was built and commissioned in Limpopo province, South Africa, close to a plentiful supply of the raw material. On site testing is performed to ASTM-D4607 specification to ensure the quality of the activated carbon produced. We use a unique and patented process for both the carbonization and high temperature steam activation in a single pass, multi-stage operation, from raw macadamia nut shells to high quality activated carbon. The unique ability of the process to produce undiluted pyrolysis gases results in having access to this heating energy, which is used to significantly reduce the overall cost of energy required in the process. We use macadamia nut shells as our raw feedstock to produce quality activated carbon. Through extensive R&D, we have developed an advanced process to achieve this. Our unique & innovative manufacturing facility is efficient with no effect on the environment. A wide range of raw materials are used to produce activated carbon, coal, peat, coconut shells and wood are commonly used to make activated carbon in the conventional rotary kilns, which are electrically or gas fired and multiple hearth furnaces and fluidized bed reactor furnaces. Activated carbon has the ability to adsorb from air or water many types of inorganic and organic compounds, as well as certain heavy metals.
